About Me

Hi, my name is Leigh Bain, I am 38 & a disABLED, married housewife. At 14 I was diagnosed with a rare genetic collagen disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Hypermobile type. At that point, I spent the rest of my life in a cocoon until I met my husband. I like to tell him I was reborn when we met because I've spent the last 15 years breaking down those walls to discover who I am, what I like & why. I have struggled with obesity over the last 15 years as well & feel I've reached a crossroads, get serious about my health by losing weight so I can maintain & strengthen my joints or stay miserable & watch my joints get replaced surgically. Please understand, I am not an expert on dieting, exercising & I'm not a doctor concerning EDS issues, but most dieter's blogging out there aren't either. We're just looking to inspire & motivate each other so we don't feel alone in our journey. That's why I made this blog to inspire & help others, by sharing my healthy recipe's, low impact exercises & encouragement to find happiness in all aspects of your life. This is also motivation to help me succeed. I'm a picky eater & "lazy" gamer, compounded by the fact that I that we're on a tight budget for two with only 1 job between us & trying to find organic, minimally processed food when the nearest Whole Foods & farmer's market is almost an hour away. I've lived a mostly sedentary life, afraid to try for fear of failing, it's easy for people to take pity on me and try to make my life easier by doing things for me. That said, I can't continue like this without sacrificing my long term happiness. I hold dear to the idea that I'll try anything once, so I will occasionally include video's sharing the experience of trying food and experiences for the first time. Keep in mind, this blog is not intended to replace doctor advice. Keep in mind, you also don't need to have EDS to find motivation, inspiration or ideas from this blog, but in case you do have EDS, remember; it affects us all differently. What works for me, may not work for you, don't get discouraged, adapt!
